Mark your calendars for the 54th NORDTEK Conference.
Welcome to Vilnius: Green Capital of Europe 2025
The capital of Lithuania was first mentioned in written sources of the 12th century. It became famous after the invitation letter written by Gediminas, the Grand Duke, in 1316 to German merchants. In 1323, Vilnius was named a city and given Magdeburg Rights. The prosperity of Vilnius city is symbolised by a legend about a dream of the Grand Duke Gediminas, in which he saw a roaring iron wolf on one of the numerous Vilnius hills. The oldest prophet explained the dream to the ruler, meaning the town’s reputation would spread far and wide.
Sustainability in Vilnius is more than just preserving green spaces and nurturing biodiversity. The walkable city embraces modern solutions to stay innovative, open, and willing to experiment. Sustainability is woven into the urban fabric of Vilnius—from switching to renewable energy in transport and heating to forward-looking urban planning that reimagines the city and its streets, making them more accessible to pedestrians and cyclists. Savor the benefits of slow living at every step: enjoy delicious meals made from locally grown organic products, move around the city without leaving a carbon footprint, connect with nature, shop for souvenirs, and experience a high quality of life.
