Scholarships for student mobility

Long term mobility

Express mobility

Students can be awarded scholarships for express mobility, up to 1 month.

Length of stay: The minimum duration of express mobility is one week (5 working days), maximum 30 days.
Objectives: Summer schools and/or courses, intensive programmes etc.

Condition of scholarship

Express mobility scholarships are awarded according to the same guidelines, criteria’s and rules as regular student mobility grants. See more information under Scholarships for Students. Generally, NORDTEK students should not pay any fees to the host institution.

Nordplus express scholarship amount

Scholarship consists of travel and accommodation support. Scholarship rates are stated in the Nordplus guidelines.

Starting January 1, 2025, a green travel top-up of 150 EUR will be provided for all mobilities funded by Nordplus. Green travel top-up is paid from NORDTEK budget. This top-up applies to travel using sustainable methods such as carpooling, buses, trains, bicycles and ferries. To receive the top-up, participants must submit supporting documents (e.g., tickets, invoices) to Head of Mobility, Ms. Anna Andersson.

If NORDTEK has funding left, we can support express mobility applications on first come first served basis.

FINLAND

Aalto Summer School offer is available here. Teaching takes place between 20 July and 28 August 2026. Discount of 10% available for students of Aalto’s partner universities!

LUT Summer School 2026 courses

LUT Summer School offers intensive one-week courses, focused on sustainability, climate action, marketing and management. Each course is worth 3 ECTS and includes one week of classroom teaching on the Lappeenranta campus 3–7 August 2026, as well as online learning components and/or preliminary assignments to support the study week.

LITHUANIA

Kaunas University of Technology

KTU PhD Summer School will take place at the Baltic seaside resort of Palanga.

Application deadline: 27 May, 2026.

KTU PhD Summer School focuses on development of key competences required for achieving best results in successful defence of the doctoral dissertation and identifying further research directions. The school:

• equips participants with essential skills that are necessary in all fields of science;
• provides participants valuable networking opportunity with participants from other countries;
• creates and shares friendly social environment;
• awards participants with certificate of attendance.

Erasmus+

Students can receive an Erasmus+ scholarship for studying at one of the NORDTEK universities.
For conditions and details please contact the contact person at your home university. Erasmus+ scholarships are granted from the student’s home university.

Application for Nordplus Scholarship

Students can receive an Nordplus scholarship for studying at one of the NORDTEK universities. All students get the same grant amount irrespectively from where they come and to where they go. The standard amount for each semester is maximum 1480€, according to Nordplus regulations. However, the scholarship amount per student can also be less if the total funding available for scholarships is insufficient.

Conditions for long term mobility

  • The scholarship is only for exchange studies and not for students who have been admitted as degree students to the host university.
  • To follow courses at bachelor’s level the student must have completed at least two years of studies within engineering (i.e. 120 ECTS) by the beginning of his/her exchange term.
  • To follow courses at master’s level, the student must have completed what compares to three years of university studies within a relevant engineering programme (i.e. 180 ECTS) by the beginning of his/her exchange term.
  • Scholarships are granted for one or two semesters.
  • During the exchange period, the student must be present in the host university (virtual mobility is not funded).
  • The applicant cannot receive a scholarship to attend a university in the applicant’s own home country (i.e. country of nationality or normal country of residence).
  • Completed courses must be transferred to the student’s home university.
  • If the exchange period is prematurely terminated, the scholarship must be repaid for the corresponding period.
  • A student who has not fully participated in exchange studies and has not passed any courses at the host university, has to pay back the scholarship.

Decision

Mobility task force consisting of NORDTEK’s Secretary General, the Mobility Programme Coordinator and the national coordinators make the decision on the allocation of scholarships.

Payments

After arriving to the host university, get in touch with the local NORDTEK contact person to get your signed Confirmation of Arrival form.

The grant will be paid to the student’s bank account after sending the Scholarship Certificate and the Confirmation of Arrival to the NORDTEK Mobility Programme Coordinator (Tinna Ólafsdóttir, tinnaolafs@hi.is).

Prolonging the exchange period
